Green Careers for a Changing Climate Instructional Supplement for Grades 6-8

Green career opportunities are rapidly increasing and students need tangible experiences that will excite and prepare them for the workforce of tomorrow. Many Green STEM Careers are the fastest growing careers in the country, and there are many pathways students can take to become qualified professionals in these areas. The Green Careers for a Changing Climate instructional supplement contains resources to help young people learn about Green STEM Careers — careers that can help solve the impacts of climate change using STEM skills. Green Careers for a Changing Climate is a twenty-minute documentary that introduces students to Green STEM Careers as a solution to climate change. Your students will discover these careers through interviews with eight green STEM professionals, learning the skills needed and possible pathways to a Green STEM Career. The instructional supplement, Green Careers for a Changing Climate, was developed to extend and support learning on Green STEM Careers after watching the short documentary of the same name. The documentary introduces students to Green STEM Career professionals, how they got into their careers, advice they would give their middle school selves, and more. This instructional supplement is an opportunity to help students imagine themselves in Green STEM Careers by developing the skills needed to pursue a career that can create a sustainable future. Research shows it is important to engage middle school students in STEM activities and introduce them to STEM careers before they become disinterested, especially for girls and students of color. This documentary was made specifically for middle school students, but can easily be adapted for older students.
