Akira is very excited to be leading the new Local Youth Campaigns. Akira joined Climate Generation in September 2019 initially as a Youth Leadership Mentor to support the YEA! program and has now evolved into leading a new youth initiative at the local level. Akira was born in Berkeley, California and grew up both in St. Paul and Berkeley respectively. He recently graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a degree in Environmental Education and has a diverse array of experience working as an educator. Akira was in the Urban Scholars Internship Program for three years and worked as a facilitator for the program for two of those years. He was on the Southside Green Zone Task Force, has completed environmental work for both Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis, in addition to working as an educator for Spark-Y Youth Action Labs. His passion for environmental justice is rooted in intentional relationship-building and supporting community power. In Akira’s free time, he enjoys going to concerts, playing trading card games and experimenting with fashion.
