Youth Convening Minnesota (YCM) is an opportunity for high school youth to learn about climate change and gain the leadership skills needed to convene their local community on climate change and inspire solutions.

YCM is a seven-month leadership opportunity beginning in November 2017 and culminating in spring of 2018 with a community-wide public convening on climate change, planned and informed by YCM youth leaders. During the 2017-18 school year, Climate Generation will be working across greater Minnesota with YCM youth leaders in the communities of Carlton, Moorhead, Rochester, Sartell, and Warba.

YCM participants are also part of a broader peer network of youth leadership across the state who are working to promote local climate change education and action in their communities. YCM youth leaders will develop confidence in communicating about climate change, hone leadership skills, gain understanding on how to inspire engagement in solutions, and realize that they have an important stake in shaping Minnesota’s future.

Climate change is one of the most defining issues of our time. This generation, meaning everyone alive today, has been the first to really experience the effects of climate change and will have the biggest influence on how we address it. Young people are the ones inheriting the consequences from decades of poor decision making, yet youth are also powerfully positioned to bring their communities together to lead conversations on climate change and insist on action.
