Annual Salary Range: $38,000-$40,000, depending on experience/qualifications

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing support for Climate Generation in two major areas:

  • Communications: electronic and print communications, earned media, social media and working with program staff on communication activities, in addition to overseeing website updates;
  • Development: event and partnership support, database support, collateral design and printing, online and mobile giving, donor research, individual giving and small/medium size corporate stewardship

Communications (55%):

  • Coordination of organization communications, both internal and external (e-newsletters, print newsletters, annual report, social media, blogs, op-eds, media advisories, press releases, etc)
  • Work closely with Program Directors and Program staff on program communication needs, including earned media strategy and integration with Climate Generation communication deliverables and timelines
  • Develop and implement online engagement and outreach strategies in conjunction with program staff
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy in conjunction with Executive and Associate Directors
  • Serve as editor and staff lead for organization’s printed newsletter (2 annually) and annual report
  • Build organization’s online presence through engaging and interactive content
  • Monitor and adjust communications strategy based on data/feedback
  • Research, write, and review content for the website, blog and all external communications as requested
  • Manage all organizational communication details and logistics, from beginning to end, including coordination with webmaster and vendors
  • Monitor, translate and share google analytics (i.e. e-news and e-blast statistics) and adjust communications accordingly
  • Facilitate program-related communication plans and provide follow-up support and accountability
  • Manage community event calendar and slideshow on website
  • Support policy communications with policy partners and PR consultants

Development (40%):

  • Support Executive Director and Associate Director with development, including donor outreach strategy, events planning, donor research, database updating and cultivation as well as donor reports
  • Assist with event ideas and planning
  • Support Associate Director with stewarding Development Committee, including meeting and logistics, taking minutes and assist with annual Development Plan
  • Nurture and maintain creative partnerships with breweries, restaurants, community institutions and other nonprofit partners to maximize outreach and fundraising synergy
  • Represent Climate Generation at outside meeting and events as needed
  • Responsible for all logistics, planning and promotion related to Welcome Mat/development events
  • Maintain and manage donor database, including pulling data for appeals, communications and fundraising reports

Miscellaneous (5%):

  • Be available before and after regularly scheduled hours for events, meetings and special functions
  • Participate in Climate Generation meetings, events and special functions that might take place on evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties to support Climate Generation’s work overall

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in communications, environmental studies, public policy, or related field
  • Solid understanding of climate change
  • Strong research, social media and writing skills
  • Interest or experience in climate change education and outreach
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings
  • Self motivated and able to work well on teams
  • Terrific public speaking and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills, specifically with time management and ability to multi-task
  • High attention to detail and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and responsibilities with consistent follow-through as well as to set priorities
  • Experience with individual fundraising strategies and comfortable asking for financial gifts
  • Experience with event planning details and logistics
  • Comfortable with technology including Microsoft/Apple software, Dropbox, Asana (content management system), Google docs, Slack, Adobe Suite, Social Media (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc)
  • Flexibility around occasional night and weekend work commitments

Desired qualifications:

  • Education or training in climate science and public policy
  • Ability to seek out, analyze, and communicate new information, data, and approaches that would be of use in program materials and outreach
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for development activities and donor and partner engagement
