FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MINNEAPOLIS – November 1, 2017 – Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy’s Kristen Poppleton will begin her new position as Director of Programs starting November 1. As Climate Generation’s Director of Education for the past seven years, Poppleton has been instrumental in energizing and growing our K–12 climate change education program and public engagement activities, overseeing two state grant funded education projects focused on Minnesota’s changing climate for schools and communities.
Under her leadership, we received national recognition from the White House for our efforts to advance climate literacy and education. She helped establish our public engagement model of convening communities and expanded our climate change education offerings for educators and students. This is a new exciting position at Climate Generation, created to evaluate impact, ensure integration of equity and policy engagement across our work, and to oversee strategic engagement of our key audiences: educators, youth, public and influentials.
“I am honored to be taking on this position and to continue to advance solutions to climate change across our programming and audiences,” said Poppleton. “I look forward to working with our team to make our already robust work even better, and more impactful.”
Poppleton joined Climate Generation as the Education Program Manager in January 2010 and became Director of Education, overseeing our K–12 and public engagement activities, where her experience in climate change education, youth leadership, and public engagement allowed the development of her new position as Director of Programs. Poppleton’s formal education includes a M.Ed. in environmental education and an M.S. in conservation biology with a focus on climate change education from the University of Minnesota.
“I am very excited to make this announcement today,” said Nicole Rom, Executive Director of Climate Generation. “Kristen brings dedication and passion along with the experience and skill sets needed for this position. In her new role, she will oversee all of our programming and be responsible for programmatic fundraising, program synergy, and evaluation.”
