Youth from across Minnesota will gather in St Paul for a March to the Capitol as part of the Clean Energy & Jobs Day of Action. The March will kick off with a short rally at 2 PM featuring live music from youth performers and speeches from MN youth climate leaders. The Young People’s March is hosted by Youth Environmental Activists of Minnesota (YEA! MN), a program of the Will Steger Foundation, and is being held in coordination with the Minnesota Clean Energy and Jobs Campaign Day of Action at the Capitol.
The Minnesota Clean Energy and Jobs Campaign mobilizes more than 30 energy, labor, youth, faith, environment, and conservation groups, as well as clean energy businesses to advance groundbreaking state legislation that creates jobs for Minnesotans and generates clean, local, renewable energy, while protecting our health.
The campaign answers Governor Dayton’s call to establish Minnesota’s sustainable energy future this legislative session and beyond — and promotes economic, energy and climate solutions supported by the majority of Minnesota voters. The Campaign specifically supports strengthening our state’s commitment to clean, renewable energy by increasing the state’s Renewable Energy Standard (RES) to 40 percent by 2030, including a Solar Energy Standard of 10 percent by 2030.
The Minnesota Clean Energy and Jobs Day of Action begins with a lobby day at the State Capitol at 9:30 AM and ends with a large rally in the Capitol Rotunda at 3 PM. The day is an opportunity for people from across MN come together at the state capitol to support clean energy and good jobs!
Young people are playing a powerful role in the Campaign, talking to legislators, organizing in their districts, working closely as equal partners in campaign strategy and tactics, and bringing the moral imperative to preserve a healthy and clean future for all of Minnesota’s children.
“It is important for youth to participate in this march and rally because what most people don’t know is that governmental officials love to hear from youth, mostly because it’s the perspective they usually don’t get. We need to fight for our future…one day we will be working at the Capitol, and we will be calling all the shots.” – Sarah Toko, YEA! MN steering committee member and high school student
