Climate Lessons Update – August 2017

Letter to Climate Change Educators

Summer is a time for so many of us to get rejuvenated. We hope some time off, a vacation or two, or even some evening walks through your neighborhood has helped you feel refreshed and ready for the new school year. Jenna has taken on the challenge of paddling 20 Minnesota lakes on her SUP board this summer and Kristen has been spending as much time as possible in the north country paddling the Boundary Waters Canoe Area with her family. Stay tuned for some great fall announcements about next year’s professional development opportunities!

Summer Institute Recap Page

This year’s Summer Institute was held at the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment and focused on our newest curriculum, Next Generation Climate. We devoted the Summer Institute to this resource recognizing that climate change provides a real-world context for learning the disciplinary core ideas of climate change, and utilizing the scientific and engineering practices outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards. Check out the Summer Institute recap page to download presentations, see pictures, or watch our evening public forum event with Dr. Ben Santer.

#TeachClimate Network and Bookclub

Do you want to virtually network with peers interested in climate change education? Do you want to read more climate change books, but need some motivation? Well here it is! We are starting a monthly online network and book club! Join us to either discuss the chosen book or talk informally about teaching climate change. Our first book club will be on Wednesday, September 20th at 7:00pm CDT. Sign up here if you are interested. We will discuss book ideas and have time for informal discussion.
