Avangrid Foundation Supports Nationwide Climate Change Education Program

Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy is pleased to announce it has received a grant from Avangrid Foundation, in collaboration with Avangrid Renewables, to support their national climate change education initiatives for K-12 educators in the 2018–2019 year. These funds will contribute to the success of their annual Summer Institute for Climate Change Education, now in its 14th year, as well as their national #TeachClimate Network offering professional development and support to educators.

These education initiatives will reach over 5,000 educators across the U.S. and support Climate Generation’s mission to empower individuals and their communities to engage in solutions to climate change.

Avangrid Foundation is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life where AVANGRID—a leading, sustainable energy company—and its subsidiaries operate, with a focus on energy sustainability, the environment, art and culture, and cooperation and solidarity. Avangrid Renewables owns and operates 7.1 gigawatts of electricity capacity, primarily through wind power, with a presence in 22 states across the U.S.

“We’re grateful for Avangrid Foundation’s support of our work in an ongoing way,” says Nicole Rom, executive director of Climate Generation. “Our long-term, sustained approach is unique: we strive to provide teachers with multiple opportunities to build on their understanding of climate change education and inspire their students to action.”

AVANGRID seeks to contribute actively and decisively to a sustainable and low-carbon future, delivering clean, low emission energy, minimizing the environmental impact of our activities and supporting and promoting actions that address climate change.

Since 2006, Climate Generation has built a suite of climate change and energy STEM-based curriculum resources and professional development opportunities for educators that are interdisciplinary and experientially designed to foster problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The Minnesota-based nonprofit has reached over 17,000 educators nationwide and consistently engages over 5,000 teachers each year with climate change literacy resources and initiatives.
